Counseling and Psychological Services

CAPS provides urgent care for students 24/7. Please call the CAPS number on the back of your student ID (401-863-3476) to access urgent services.

CAPS Summer Services: 

CAPS summer hours are 8:00-4:00, Monday-Friday. CAPS therapists are licensed in the state of RI. Students who will be enrolled at Brown in fall 2026 can access CAPS summer services by walking into the Health & Wellness building and talking to our front desk team, or calling CAPS (401-863-3476).

24/7 urgent services continue to be available by calling CAPS (401-863-3476).

Students located in the US, but outside of RI, can access mental health resources through TimelyCare.

International students who are home this summer can utilize BetterHelp

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) offers a range of mental health treatment and prevention services for Brown students in an inclusive, compassionate, affirming and socially just environment. 

CAPS provides brief and intermittent individual psychological treatment, mental health support, medication management, training and consultation for faculty and staff, crisis stabilization, 24/7 support, outreach programming, and groups. Since fall 2023, CAPS has partnered with TimelyCare to offer a free virtual care service for all currently enrolled students to address common concerns that can be safely diagnosed and treated remotely.

Our Services

The wellbeing of Brown students is our priority. Students experiencing a crisis are always encouraged to reach out, even after hours.
CAPS offers short-term, intermittent individual counseling for currently-enrolled students located in the state of Rhode Island.
Students can gain support through a clinical or support group led by CAPS therapists to address a variety of mental health needs.


CAPS psychiatrists are a part of the greater Student Health & Wellness team that prescribes psychiatric medication for Brown students.
TimelyCare is a free virtual care service for students to address common concerns that can be safely diagnosed and treated remotely.
